How to Apply Concealer Like a Pro – 6 Easy Steps

No one likes zits and pesky spots on their face, literally no one.

But, fret not! This magical, skin-perfecting armor called concealer is here to save the day.

It is one product in your makeup kit that you can’t do without. So don’t shy away from investing some dollars in your concealer.

But hold on…purchasing a high-end concealer is not nearly enough.

Knowing how to apply concealer properly is just as important as purchasing the right concealer.

If you don’t know how to apply concealer, you will probably end up doing more harm than good.

The last thing you want is for your concealer to turn your skin patchy and to draw more attention to the spot you were trying to conceal in the first place.

To help you learn how to apply concealer the right way and demystify whether you can use your concealer in place of foundation, below we share some essential pointers.

Let’s get started!

Table of Contents

1. Prep Your Skin Before Starting

If you want to get the, then make sure to follow all the steps in proper order.

First and foremost, you have to prepare your skin in such a way that it is devoid of any makeup and is pretty much like a clean slate.

Before picking up any makeup product or applying anything, always make sure to follow through the following steps (in the given order):

  • Cleanse your skin
  • Exfoliate your skin
  • Finally, moisturize your skin

Now, the question is what should you use to moisturize your skin? We’d suggest you to use a hydrating face cream!

Once you are done with all the steps, finally apply some primer to prep your skin.

2. Apply Concealer Under Your Eyes

Are you struggling to get a beauty sleep? No worries!

You need to pick up your concealer to hide all evidence of under-eye dark circles.

But there’s one thing that you need to know about before you get to work.

The concealer used to cover dark circles is different from the concealer used to conceal blemishes. So, before picking a concealer for your under eyes, keep this thing in mind.

Start with off with a peach color-correcting concealer to neutralize the purple pigment underneath your eyes.

Draw two inverted triangles under both your eyes and point it towards your cheek.

To avoid any kind of creasing or caking, tap it thoroughly using a beauty blender. If you don’t have a beauty blender, you can make use of your fingers.

3. Apply Concealer On Your Eyelids

Not everyone is fond of shelling out extra makeup budget to purchase an eye shadow primer. They don’t need to purchase it either!

And why would they, when they already have a concealer?

Just a tiny dab of concealer can do wonders for your eyelids. It removes not only all the creases but also prevents your eye-shadow from fading off. This makeup hack will especially come in handy during summers.

4. Apply Concealer On Pimples & Blemishes

Are you plagued by a pesky blemish that does not seem to be going away anytime soon?

Again, you do not have to worry about anything.

Concealer is primarily used to cover up pimples and blemishes.

To neutralize the redness of the pimple, use a color correcting concealer that is green in color. If you try to apply it to the skin around the pimple, you might end up spreading the bacteria further, so it’s better to avoid it.

Next, take a cotton swab and use it to apply a regular concealer that aligns with your natural skin tone. Hide the pimple completely by blending it into the skin, and set it off with setting powder.

Finally, you will look into the mirror and wonder, “Blemish & Pimples, what the heck are they?”

5. Apply Concealer On Lackluster Areas

Every woman wants to have a glowing, healthy skin — there are no two ways about it!

But you can’t help it when some days your complexion appears to be a bit lackluster. Concealer again appears as a saving grace.

To hide the dull-looking areas, apply a pale lavender color-correcting concealer and perk up your skin within a few minutes. As you do with all other color-correcting concealers, camouflage the pale lavender concealer too by finally covering it up with your regualr concealer.

6. Apply Concealer Around Your Nose

No matter how many times you apply concealer around your nose, you can’t seem to make it stay. You need an oil-absorbing setting powder to alleviate this problem. Just apply little puffs of a good oil-absorbing setting powder after you are done applying the concealer around your nose.

This trick comes in handy, especially around the summer season, when makeup tends to come off due to sweat. You need to make sure that your concealer is appropriately set to conceal redness around the nose throughout the day.

What would you do when you run out of your concealer? Simple, put on a small dash of the foundation instead!

You are running late for an important meeting.

But wait, you have run out of your concealer…What will you do now?

Ugh, the dilemma!

Don’t worry; your foundation will work out just fine.

Just place a small dot of liquid foundation on the area or blemish you want to conceal, wait for a few minutes for the foundation to thicken a bit like concealer, and then blend it, finally.

Wrap Up

Concealer is the numero-uno in the world of makeup. It makes your life a lot easier and on top of that, conceals all your imperfections on the fly. From your blemishes to scars and dull-looking areas, it can cover just about everything.

And here’s another good news:

If you want to go simple with the makeup, you can apply concealer on its own and skip foundation altogether.

Also, to get a more lasting effect, don’t forget to set your concealer with a translucent setting powder.

If you are a beginner, the points mentioned above should help you get started with your makeup routine right away, without any hassle.
